Liverpool travel to Southampton for a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie on Wednesday
Southampton have sacked manager Russell Martin ahead of their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Liverpool. The Saints made the decision after their humiliating 5-0 Premier League defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Spurs scored four goals inside the first 25 minutes and added a fifth and final strike before the half-time break, which resulted in scores of Southampton supporters leaving St Mary's early.
'We would like to take this opportunity to thank Russell and his staff for all the hard work and dedication they have given the club on and off the pitch over the last 18 months. 'Everyone connected with Southampton FC will always have fantastic memories of last season, especially the play-off final win in May.
