Southampton confirm Ruben Selles as their new manager SaintsFC
The Spaniard became caretaker boss after the sacking of Nathan Jones and inspired a 1-0 victory at Chelsea on Saturday.Saints have now confirmed Selles will be in charge until the end of the 2022/23 campaign as the club fight to avoid relegation.
Despite the unlikely win at Stamford Bridge, the south-coast club remain rock-bottom of the Premier League table and three points adrift of safety. Southampton suffered seven defeats in eight top-flight matches under Jones – and the Welshman lasted just three months.Selles becomes the club’s third manager of the season after Ralph Hasenhuttl was also sacked in November following a four-year reign.
The 39-year-old worked as assistant for both previous managers and stepped in as caretaker boss after both departures. Saints had hoped to appoint ex-Leeds manager Jesse Marsch before the trip to Chelsea on Saturday – but talks collapsed at the eleventh hour.
