Reality TV star and former politician Thomas Ravenel declares his candidacy for Governor of South Carolina, promising to bring change to both the state and the nation.
Thomas Ravenel , known for his appearances on the Bravo reality series Southern Charm , has announced his candidacy for Governor of South Carolina. The 62-year-old former reality television star took to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday to share his gubernatorial aspirations with his 86,000 followers. 'I’m running for Governor of South Carolina and none of the lightweights currently in the race are going to stop me.
I have a message that’s going to change not just South Carolina but the entire country,' he wrote on the platform. Ravenel's political career spans over two decades, marked by both successes and controversies. He previously served as South Carolina State Treasurer but resigned in 2007 following federal cocaine charges. Ravenel has a history of run-ins with the law, including campaign finance violations, assault allegations, and a prison sentence for cocaine possession. His 2014 bid for a U.S. Senate seat against incumbent Republican Senator Lindsey Graham ended in a decisive defeat. Despite these legal challenges, Ravenel remains determined to pursue his political goals. He claims to have a message that will resonate with voters across South Carolina and the nation
