Axel Rudakubana, who pleaded guilty to the murders of three young girls at a dance studio in Southport, disrupted his sentencing hearing by claiming to be ill. The 18-year-old shouted for a paramedic after only ten minutes in court, prompting an outburst from members of the public. The sentencing hearing was adjourned after the dramatic incident.
Child killer Axel Rudakubana , 18, was due to be sentenced for the murders of Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar at Liverpool Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to the murders on Monday, just as his trial was due to begin. Rudakubana made a dramatic outburst in court, shouting he was ill and demanding a paramedic after just 10 minutes. The proceedings were delayed by almost an hour as Rudakubana arrived late.
During the hearing, the court heard harrowing details about the attack on the dance studio, including how dance teacher Leanne Lucas, who was stabbed five times, ordered the children to run for safety. Lucas required a blood transfusion at Aintree University Hospital and arrived in a life-threatening condition with severe internal injuries. The court also heard about the injuries sustained by the victims, which were described as unsurvivable in the cases of Bebe, Elsie, and Alice. One member of the public shouted 'coward' as Rudakubana was taken back to the cells. The sentencing hearing was adjourned after the defendant's outburst. Patrick Hurley, the MP for Southport, expressed his view that Rudakubana should be treated as an adult for sentencing purposes and called for a law change to allow for whole-life sentences in such cases. He deemed Rudakubana's behavior in court as 'utter disrespect' to the victims' families. Sky News presenter Sarah Jane Mee, while relaying details about the case, broke down in tears on live television when recounting the distressing information
