A man has been detained and a knife seized after armed police were called to Hart Street in Southport at 11.50am today
Alder Hey Children's Hospital has confirmed it has declared a major incident. 'The Trust is working with other emergency services to respond to this incident and our Emergency Department is currently extremely busy,' they said in a statement. 'We ask parents to only bring their children to the Emergency Department if it is urgent. 'All other appointments and services are running as normal.
' Officials have not confirmed whether there were any children stabbed, but the emergency department section of the hospital's website states: 'Please note, we can only offer treatment to young people under the age of 16, after which they will need to attend an adult emergency department.' Colin Parry, owner of Masters Vehicle Body Repairs on Hart Street, said he believed six or seven “young girls” had been stabbed - but there is no official confirmation of this from authorities.
