Karen Ogg believes the disgraced neurosurgeon caused more damage when he operated on her spine
After consultant Sam Eljamel operated on Karen Ogg her pain worsened rather than improved.
“When I stood up the pain was awful. I had pins and needles going down my leg which were excruciating. I thought I was going to be sick from it.” She said: “My GP said I would only have surgery if the MRI scan showed a serious prolapse of the disc which is what it showed at L4/L5 level - quite low down the back.
“Before they intubate you they give you 100% oxygen so you have oxygen reserves. But I didn’t get pure oxygen before they intubated me and there is an asterix in my notes saying ‘no harm came to patient’.” A few days later she went to recover with Gladys in Glenrothes but she has never been able to live alone since. At her physio Karen told how she was having ongoing pain and was unable to do some of the exercises.
“Seventeen years on I still have the chronic pain all the time radiating down my leg. I have significant weakness in it as well as bladder and bowel problems, I live with depression.
