Photos snapped at one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations showed the place looking 'half empty' on the bank holiday Monday.
A major Spanish holiday hotspot looked eerily quiet this week despite the bank holiday here in the UK, with locals claiming it appeared to be 'half empty if that'.
It comes just days after anti-tourism protestors took to the streets of Palma, demanding the government takes 'immediate' action to deal with the issue of overcrowding and the housing crisis, Birmingham Live reports. Some local business owners were reportedly concerned about the lack of visitors, while others claimed it was still busy on the weekends. One bar owner suggested that anti-tourism protesters' 'wishes had been granted', with the start of the peak holiday season in June now just days away.
One of the organisers, Javier Barbero, told the publication: "This has only just begun. If the reality is denied and still no measures are taken, we will take to the streets until they act." He added that the group was not 'saying no to tourism' but added: "We have to rethink the tourism model."
