Half of all participants in the Adult Migrant English Program drop out within a year. Even fewer end up with a good grasp of English.

Behavioural economics experts in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet are trialling ways to prod migrants into resuming their English language studies.

However, around 50 per cent of AMEP participants leave the program within a year, while only one in five leave with functional levels of English.
