It first opened back in 1991
It's been decades since film-lovers first headed to a "spectacular" cinema that called Liverpool home for almost 25 years.
At the time, MGM ran 143 cinemas nationally, with Liverpool’s "spectacular multiplex" being the 13th of its type. A representative previously said: "It’s a wonderful situation to be in. We expect audience figures to top the million mark in our first year." You can also see Derek Winwright, cinema manager and house manager, Ian Walker, in one of the projection rooms. But by 1995, the site had been renamed Virgin and later UGC in 1999.
The UGC later became Cineworld in 2005 - the last chapter of the building's life. It continued to attract film-lovers of all ages for a decade to see the latest releases and enjoy the likes of a Tango Iceblast. It said: "We are sad to share the news that your local Cineworld will soon be closing. After a decade serving the movie lovers of Liverpool, the landlord has served us notice on our building.
