Joshua Gregory's car was described as 'going like a rocket'
The life of an overseas student who came to Nottingham to complete his Masters degree was shockingly cut short by a speeding driver who was “treating the roads of the city centre like a racetrack”. The car Joshua Gregory was behind the wheel of was described by an eyewitness as “going like a rocket” when it struck and instantly ended the life of 31-year-old Oshada Jayasundera in Huntingdon Street.
“But in the early hours of December 13, last year, you showed a very different side, one that has deeply shocked all that know you. You took a car, unlawfully, and spent the next 10 hours driving around Nottingham - North, South, East and West. The prosecutor said: “The recording of the pursuit shows that the police car reached 78mph in this 30mph zone. The defendant was overtaking a car and approaching the scene at great speed. and Mr Jayasundera was struck as he crossed the third of four lanes on that crossing. The force of that collision caused catastrophic and unsurvivable head and chest injuries despite the best efforts of paramedics.
Earlier that day he had taken the Ford Focus SE from where he worked at ‘7 Automotive’, a car dealership, based at Burntstump Hill, eight miles from the location of the fatal collision, without his manager’s permission.
