The autopsy for a Massachusetts teenager determined a large amount of chili pepper extract contributed to his death last year.
A Worcester, Massachusetts , teenager who participated in the “one chip challenge” on social media died from ingesting a substance containing a large amount of capsaicin, a chili pepper extract, according to an autopsy reportThe boy’s cause of death was listed as cardiopulmonary arrest “in the setting of recent ingestion of food substance with high capsaicin concentration,” according to the Associated Press. He also had an enlarged heart and a congenital heart defect, according to his autopsy.
“My heart goes out to all who knew and loved him,” Worcester Schools Superintendent Rachel Monarrez said in the statement.“I hope, I pray to God that no parents will go through what I’m going through. I don’t want to see anybody hurting the way I’m hurting.” Lois Wolobah told WBZ-TV. “I miss my son so much. I miss him so much.”
