A well-earned victory for Sergio Perez in the F1Sprint, but Max Verstappen was left unhappy after first-lap contact with George Russell. F1 AzerbaijanGP

Sergio Perez took victory in the sprint race at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Saturday, overtaking Charles Leclerc to stand on the top step.

George Russell, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Lance Stroll rounded out the points finishers from Saturday’s running, with Stroll passing the Williams of Alex Albon to take the final point on the day. A bit of contact at Turn 2 between the pair did not sit well with the Red Bull driver, who voiced his anger over team radio and getting car damage along with it – a hole in his sidepod, to be exact.

While Tsunoda was able to get back out again, his suspension was clearly damaged and he could not drive in a straight line with his steering wheel at the correct angle, which in turn brought out the full Safety Car by the fourth lap of 17. The job for Leclerc from there was to try and stay within DRS range of the Mexican, with Verstappen not far behind and looking to use his own rear wing advantage.
