fans will be talking about it for decades, but James, Michael and Will Perkins will remember it for the wrong reasons.They had drank 12 pints each before the match, and decided to leave believing they were seconds away from being knocked out.
It started when they were late to the start of the match, trying to get in with an old Tottenham ticket. By the time they got inside, Tottenham were already 2:0 down.‘We were pretty poor and were having no chances at all. We all left just before half time – thinking it was full time,’ James said.Thankfully, on their way back they got a phonecall from a friend who pointed out the match was definitely not finished.
Describing the moment he realised his mistake, he said: ‘[My friend] told me when Spurs scored the first goal. I was so confused. But then I realised no one was stood around us waiting for a train.
