Hwang said: “Through the reference to the SsangYong Motor lay-offs, I wanted to show that any ordinary middle-class person in the world we live in today can fall to the bottom of the economic ladder overnight.” He said: “I wanted to write a story that was an allegory or fable about modern capitalist society, something that depicts an extreme competition, somewhat like the extreme competition of life.The Brothers’ Home was an internment camp in Busan, South Korea, during the 70s and 80s, which has been wrongly identified as an inspiration forNicknamed “Korea’s Auschwitz”, it was the site of some of the nation’s worst human rights abuses during this era.
