“A lot of our references are rooted around British aristocracy, as well as the maintenance around the houses and gardens of these characters,” explains Stokey-Daley.
The collection, which consists of both menswear and womenswear, incorporates an array of garden-inspired motifs – see Stokey-Daley’s bluebell-printed deadstock twill and calico shirts emblazoned with illustrations from 1920s seed packets. A surprising collaboration with actor Dan Levy’s DL Eyewear was also shown; the two eyewear designs – one square and one rounded – put a modern spin on 20th-century styles.
What does Stokey-Daley want the audience to take away from the show? “The worlds of Sackville-West and Trefusis deserve to be recognised,” says the designer. “And it’s truly rewarding to showcase the brand’s recurring themes through the lens of queer women, because I’m not sure that gets spoken about enough.”
