The technology continues to get a real battering with players and clubs growing more and more frustrated.
St Johnstone have joined the growing list of Premiership clubs that have gone to the Scottish Football Association to complain about its VAR usage.
Motherwell issued a strongly-worded statement earlier this week confirming they had gone to the governing body over a number of discrepancies with VAR, following their weekend defeat to Aberdeen. Saints have also made their feelings known to the SFA . The SFA’s head of referee operations Crawford Allan met with Saints in the wake of their 1-1 draw with Aberdeen back in January. John Beaton, the referee in that game, was sent to the monitor by VAR, where he then decided to disallow a Graham Carey goal and also awarded Aberdeen a dubious penalty. An independent review of VAR footage then admitted that it was a mistake and Carey’s goal should have stood.
They have put video clips of those incidents together and also sent them to the SFA, after they missed out on a penalty for handball against Livingston’s Michael Devlin. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is facing a disciplinary charge after comments he made about VAR calls in their recent defeat against Hearts.
There is a growing frustration amongst the clubs who are funding VAR. Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack admitted at his club's recent AGM that he would happily bin it. Referee chief Allan has been left in the firing line and confirmed earlier this week that he is stepping down at the end of the season.
