Players on the San Antonio Brahmas and St. Louis Battlehawks have opposing reactions to a 2-point conversion pass to San Antonio wide receiver Jontre Kirkland in the fourth quarter of a United Football League game on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis.Saturday’s regular-season finale between the San Antonio Brahmas and St. Louis Battlehawks came down to a missed field-goal attempt with eight seconds to play.
Kirkland caught Dormady’s pass on the 2-point conversion throw, but officials ruled the Battlehawks had kept the football from crossing the goal line. But video replay overturned that ruling and awarded 2 points to the Brahmas. “That’s a collaboration of all our staff coming together, constantly looking at things,” Battlehawks coach Anthony Becht said of his challenge, “and I finally got one right. That’s been a struggle, trying to pick out the right play to use it on, and we were able to get a big play, and then, obviously, the defense made the stop on that 2-point conversion.”
That left St. Louis and San Antonio tied with 7-3 records at the top of the XFL Conference, and the Battlehawks will host the conference-championship game because they swept the season series with the Brahmas.
