The midfielder picked up seven caps for Northern Ireland during his playing career.

Stephen Robinson revealed his biggest regret in football is not collecting more international caps for Northern Ireland.

A persistent back injury cost him the chance to turn out in his national jersey more often, with the 48-year-old making just seven appearances for Northern Ireland. “You had Neil Lennon, Michael Hughes, Keith Gillespie then, later on Steve Lomas, Steven Davis and Sammy Clingan, who were all top-level players.

“But I had a lot of problems with my back throughout my career. I had operations on it and often I needed the international break to get injections. Going toe-to-toe with Barcelona superstars Xavi and Andres Iniesta certainly wasn’t the worst way to sign off his international career.“We needed a draw to qualify, away in Spain, but Stephen Craigan scored an own goal and that was the end of that.
