Allan McManus insists more still has to be done after losing his 'best friend' Mark to suicide in 2005.

Driving home from Dumfries after picking up a red card against Queen of the South back in October 2005, Allan McManus didn’t realise his life was about to change almost irrecoverably.

What followed was the worst 24 hours of Allan’s life, with the devastated brother having to inform his parents of what had happened to their son. “I remember being in a dream-like state once I was told he was gone. I had to tell my wife and then I was determined to tell my parents before the police did.

The figures still make incredibly bleak reading almost two decades since Mark took his own life, with 762 probable suicides recorded in Scotland in 2022 – an increase of nine on the previous year. St Mirren themselves are doing all they can to help promote better mental health for their supporters through their charitable foundation.
