Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse says the proposals aim 'to create workplaces where people treat each other with respect' - but there are concerns it could open the door to numerous legal claims.
A law change to protect employees that critics claim could mean"banter bouncers" patrolling some workplaces is being"oversimplified", according to the MP behind it.
However, opponents have said it could also mean a pub worker being able to sue after overhearing a private conversation or joke referring to a characteristic, such as age or sex. He claimed businesses like pubs might be forced to put up"No Banter" notices or get bouncers to police punters' conversations.
