Football Insider has learned that Standard Liege have hijacked Sheffield Wednesday's move for Newcastle United star Isaac Hayden.
Hayden has been deemed surplus to requirements at St James’ Park with the midfielder not having been given a spot in Eddie Howe’s plans and being forced to train away from the first-team squad.
He spent last season out on loan with Norwich City but made only 14 appearances in the Championship with injuries hampering his time at Carrow Road. The midfielder has racked up 171 total appearances for the Magpies, including 118 outings in the Premier League. Arsenal youth product Hayden has been at Newcastle since 2016 and is under contract on Tyneside until June 2026 after penning a long-term deal before the club’s mega-money takeover.The club will also not feature in European competition this season.
