One of the emerging arcs of the fifth and final season of Star Trek : Discovery is how Captain Michael Burnham is moving on from her original first officer in Cmdr. Saru , who accepted a position as an ambassador and to work more closely with his partner Ni'Var President T'Rinna in ongoing efforts to help re-establish the Federation throughout the galaxy following The Burn. Filling in that void reluctantly is the former captain of the U.S.S.
