Star Trek actress Jill Jacobson’s cause of death has been revealed. The star, best known for her roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Newhart, has died aged 70 after battling a “a long illness” according to friend and publicist Dan Harary. Just months before her death, Jacobson revealed she had been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer about two and a half years ago. Harary told Deadline Jacobson died on December 8 at Culver West Health Centre in Culver City, California.
Jacobson spoke of her cancer earlier this year during her appearance on the The Jim Masters Show, explaining that her cancer “kind of took me out of the game for a while”. “What I went through was pretty intense. You can’t function, you just can’t function. “And now I’m so grateful, I just want to keep going, I want to help people. It makes you want to help people.” Jacobson was a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society.
