The Labour leader is in Greater Manchester today
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said he is aiming to ‘bring immigration down’ to levels seen while Britain was an EU member during a visit to Brexit-backing Bolton .
They came in response to the Prime Minister's pledge to introduce an annual cap on worker and family visas in their efforts to ensure immigration figures fall year on year. It would be imposed on the number of visas that can be granted to those coming to the UK on work or family routes, but temporary workers like seasonal agricultural workers, would not fall within the cap.“We have taken bold action to cut the number of people coming to this country.
“This Prime Minister is actually, for all his tough talk, the most liberal prime minister when it comes to immigration, those numbers have gone through the roof.”Bolton voted in favour of leaving the EU in 2016, with 58.7 per cent of voters backing Brexit. In the subsequent 2019 election where Boris Johnson’s Conservative party promised to ‘Get Brexit Done’, residents voted in Tory MPs in two out of three seats in the town.
