The Prime Minister will deliver a major speech on Thursday outlining his 'Plan for Change'

Sir Keir Starmer will stop talking about achieving high growth in a direct lesson from the failure of President Biden to beat Donald Trump in the US election.

Downing Street denied that this amounted to a sidelining of the mission to achieve the fastest economic growth in the G7 group of wealthy democracies – the UK, US, Canada, Japan, France, Italy and Germany. A Labour insider added that the refocusing appeared to be “all about the US lessons, and to some extent Australia and Germany”, where centre-left governments are all on the verge of being ousted following high inflation: “There is a global cost of incumbency crisis”

The Plan for Change will outline milestones on each of Starmer’s five missions for Government, which also include making the UK a clean energy “superpower”, building an NHS fit for the future, making Britain’s streets safe and reforming education and childcare to “break down barriers to opportunity”.
