After Radek Faksa gave Dallas a 1-0 lead in the first period, Dallas poured in the offense with five different goal-scorers on the night. Tyler Seguin capitalized on a power play before Wyatt Johnston, Jamie Benn and Sam Steel added three more goals in a span of 2:37 to close out the period.Johnston passed the 30-goal mark on the year as the team’s leading scorer at just 20 years old. Steel and Craig Smith had two points while Faksa had three on the night.who posted a shutout with 35 saves.
Dallas not only proved its ability to hang with the best in the league but that it is now the team they’ll need to chase. The Stars entered the day with an opportunity to claim the No. 1 overall spot in the NHL if the New York Rangers fell to the New Jersey Devils and Dallas took care of business. The Rangers ultimately came back from a deficit against a non-playoff team in a narrow 4-3 victory to preserve their spot in the Presidents’ Trophy race.But the Stars didn’t need a chance to officially claim the title of best team in the league. Their play spoke for itself.
