The Dallas Stars unveiled a statue of the franchise's all-time leading scorer Mike Modano on PNC Plaza outside the American Airlines Center Saturday.

“He was really that era’s Connor McDavid as far as skating went,” Stars head coach Pete DeBoer said. “He was the guy that really could skate by everyone on the ice. There’s very few of those guys, usually one or two every era.“He would have been electric with today’s new rules. He’s one of those guys you could have put in any era, and he would’ve been a great player.
The sold out stadiums are a direct result of Modano putting hockey on the map in Texas when the team moved to Dallas in 1993. Standout American-born players like Jason Robertson and Jake Oettinger had a path cleared by Modano and those that came before.
