The Station Street exit has been shut by East Midlands Railway for a trial period until next Sunday, November 17
Nottingham's black cab drivers say the closure of the Station Street exit to Nottingham Railway Station is like the "final nail in the coffin" for their business. Their taxi rank was once based on Carrington Street, when the front of the train station was a small, sheltered pick up and drop off point.
Chander Sood, the secretary of Nottingham's Hackney Carriage Owners and Drivers Association, said: "We are choking now. It's the last nail in the coffin. We used to wait 15 minutes for a job, and now it's around two hours. The Trent Street move, to outside Loxley House, was not welcomed by the drivers, but they had no choice, said Mr Akram. They say Nottingham City Council told them that the Station Street exit was where most passengers exited and would thus see the taxis immediately.
Mr Akram, who has been driving for 36 years, said "We've complained so many times over the years to the council licensing. We're losing a lot of business. When we were at the station entrance, people came into the foyer and we were there. Now, when they come out, they can't see us because we're hidden.
