The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed linebacker Tyler Matakevich to a one-year contract on Wednesday.
Pittsburgh Steelers inside linebacker Tyler Matakevich warms up before an NFL football game against the New York Jets, Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, in East Rutherford, N.J. . Nicknamed ‘Dirty Red’, the Steelers initially drafted Matakevich out of Temple in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
With the Steelers from 2016 to 2019, Matakevich rose to their ranks as one of the team’s valued special teamers, but they failed to retain him once his contract expired. He posted 77 tackles during his career in Pittsburgh, often having to step up when injuries hit the team’s inside linebacker room hard.
As a corresponding move on the 90-man roster, the Steelers released safety Jalen Elliott. Elliott was signed to a reserve/future contract following the season after bouncing on and off the team’s practice squad in 2023.
