Haas Team Principal Gunther Steiner discussed his team’s position ahead of the 2023 season. According to the Italian, the new sponsor MoneyGram and the budget cap contribute to the team being in a “solid position” to be competitive in the future.
Formula 1 introduced one of the most discussed financial regulations in sports in 2021 limiting the teams’ expenditures. The measure was introduced to level the team’s resources and guarantee an equal grid. While top teams heavily criticized the budget cap’s introduction, smaller teams strongly supported the FIA’s decision. Haas, a team that particularly suffered a lack of resources in comparison with other competitors in the past, admitted the budget cap has worked in guaranteeing more chances to compete. In particular, Haas Team Principal Gunther Steiner admitted tothat the arrival to the team of new title sponsor MoneyGram as well as the budget cap help Haas’ financial situation: “I’d say we were never in a bad position. 2020 was not an easy position, because of the pandemic when that broke out. But I think yes, it [MoneyGram] puts us in a very solid position. “The best one or not? I think in the beginning, we were very solid with everything.
