The SNP Westminster leader said the project could go ahead if it meets climate requirements

New SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn has opened up a split with Nicola Sturgeon on the controversial Cambo oil field plan.

"But it would need to meet the threshold as laid out. That threshold, as I understand it... does take into consideration the necessity for energy security." "I have set out a proposal for a climate assessment and I think the presumption would be that Cambo could not and should not pass any rigorous climate assessment. The Cambo oil field is 75 miles north west of Shetland and the project could yield hundreds of millions of barrels.

Flynn insisted he was not interested in leading the SNP in the future despite now being one of the party's high profile figures.
