Steve Sarkisian does not want to go there.

Texas faces Georgia this Saturday in a massive SEC game, and the Longhorns head coach wants zero part of chatter that could indicate a quarterback controversy between Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers.

Ewers is the starter for Texas, and at media availability, a reporter asked Sarkisian what would need to happen for Manning to replace him during the game.Texas head football coach Steve Sarkisian celebrates a score against Oklahoma in the first half of an NCAA college football game in Dallas, Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024.This season, Manning has completed 70.5 percent of his passes for 901 yards with nine touchdown passes and two interceptions.

In a media call before the Oklahoma game last week, Sarkisian indicated that he does not like the idea of switching quarterbacks mid-game. “When I was a starter I never wanted the backup coming in the game, even for a play,” Sarkisian told reporters. “And I remember my senior year of college, I had been banged up and coaches wanted to run a quarterback draw. And they called the play and I scored a touchdown. So I’ve got respect for a guy that’s a starting quarterback and the rhythm that is needed to play with, so no that’s not something I’ve ever entertained.
