Steve Titmus, a prominent Australian broadcaster, is transitioning from his role at 7NEWS Gold Coast to become the head of the sports division at 7NEWS Brisbane. This move coincides with Shane Webcke's stepping down from full-time work. Titmus expressed his excitement about returning to his roots in sports broadcasting and working alongside experienced colleagues.
The Seven Network announced Steve Titmus will take on a new senior leadership role in its Brisbane newsroom, leading the sports division as 7NEWS Brisbane’s sports anchor alongside Max Futcher and Sarah Greenhalgh. Titmus begins the new role next month when Shane Webcke steps down from full-time work to pursue his family business. Titmus said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to present 7NEWS Gold Coast over the past three years and I’m proud of what we achieved as a team.
But moving forward we must be realistic about how best to deliver the major stories and events on the coast to achieve maximum coverage for the local and greater community. “This is a positive for the Gold Coast. It’s not the end of coverage of news on the coast, we remain committed to telling important local stories and they will get a greater audience during the 6.00pm bulletin. “I’m very excited about my new role with 7NEWS as it embraces my passion and enthusiasm for sport and sports broadcasting. I’m returning to where it all began for me when I joined Seven 25 years ago – in the sport department. Our coverage of sport news is unrivalled and I look forward to contributing all that I can now with so much more journalistic experience and life skills from my family’s journey through grassroots community sport to glory at the Olympic Games. “I’m also thrilled to be working full time on the Brisbane news desk with Max, Sarah and Tony. All are long time colleagues and friends, which will shine through in our broadcasts. “The plan is to continue to live on the Gold Coast and my passionate involvement with the local community.” With a broadcasting career spanning 40 years, Titmus is best known as the enthusiastic dad of Aussie Olympic swimming champion Ariarne Titmus. For background context, Webcke announced some months ago he was stepping back from daily hostings. He will remain a regular fixture on 7NEWS Brisbane alongside Gilly for NRL special comments and insight
