The Liverpool icon has gone from bona fide contender to rank outsider in 18 months
A superfan of Steven Gerrard launched an impassioned plea to get him installed as the next England boss but the attempt was met with resistance.
The former Rangers boss was viewed as one of the brightest bosses in Britain when he swapped Ibrox for Aston Villa, however, his nightmare at Villa Park saw Gerrard head to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq in an attempt to restore his reputation. A sixth-placed finish was even par for the 43-year-old as he aims to improve in his second season in the Gulf.
But his biggest admirer, Katherine, was trying to get Gerrard the England job as she went to bat for him during a live radio call–in which punters were naming their best bets to replace Gareth Southgate after he exited following eight years at the helm. Speaking on talkSPORT, she said: "I think he was at a Scottish club, now he is in Saudi. I am sure for a position like that I'm thinking he might just turn the tables. And another plus is he is English.
That was met by a stunned reaction from both Neil 'Razor' Ruddock and Natalie Sawyer, with the latter quipping: "Stevie G, he is not on the list of contenders on my list.
