King says the former manager was 'absolutely kicked out' of a club he didn't want to leave
Dave King was the man who set Rangers on the road to 55. But the former chairman fears the directors he left to run the Ibrox boardroom are leaving the path clear for Celtic to march on to 57 and beyond.
But having seen what King and Gerrard both felt was the chance to re-establish Rangers as the country’s dominant force go squandered, the Castlemilk-born tycoon is in no mood to apologise. Instead, he believes it is time that those he blames for allowing Celtic - who won their 54th title last season - to close in on Rangers’ title benchmark to step aside.
“It’s amazing that the same people who got us into this trouble want to continue control by placing, as a professional chairman, their own puppet - who will have no knowledge of the club or financial interest in its future. We are sleepwalking Celtic towards 55, 56 and 57 instead of trying to stop them. This board will go down as an infamy in the club’s history.”
“It's absolutely true that we went backwards from that point. It was the ethos, the standards, everything about the club that Steven instilled. Then we started to go down from there.”
