Two-time World Cup winner latest high-profile departure from the province
Steven Kitshoff says Ulster will always have a place in his heart as the province confirmed he will leave at the end of the current season.
The two-time World Cup winner arrived at Kingspan Stadium last October after helping South Africa secure back-to-back wins in the tournament. Kitshoff had agreed a three-year deal with the URC side, but Ulster said they had "mutually agreed" to draw the Springbok’s contract to an early close. The 32-year-old is set to rejoin the Stormers, who he left to come to Belfast, but he said he had enjoyed his time with the province.“Since arriving in Belfast, I have really enjoyed my time in the Ulster jersey, and it’s been a privilege to be a part of such a great group of players and support staff," said Kitshoff. “Ulster will always have a place in my heart, and I’m grateful to the supporters that welcomed me to a club and province that is undoubtedly a very special place.
Kitshoff has played 12 times for Ulster so far but has been named in the starting line up for Sunday's Challenge Cup round 16 clash against Montpellier. Kitshoff will be the third high-profile name to leave Kingspan in recent months following the exits of head coach Dan McFarland and CEO Jonny Petrie.
Fly-half Billy Burns will also bring his six-year spell with the province to an end after this season as he joins Munster.
