VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis on Sunday pleaded for an end to the Hamas-Israeli war amid fears it could widen, and called for more humanitarian aid to be allowed into to the Gaza Strip.

Israel's retaliatory bombing campaign has killed more than 4,300 Palestinians, mainly civilians, said the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry, and reduced swathes of the densely populated enclave to smoldering ruins.'War, any war that there is in the world — I also think of tormented Ukraine — is a defeat,' Francis said.
