The Met Office has issued a yellow wind weather warning from noon on Wednesday to 7am on Thursday
The UK is bracing itself ahead of the arrival of Storm Agnes on Wednesday. Weather warnings have been issued with strong winds and heavy rain forecast, which could cause floods, power cuts and tear down trees.
It also covers most of the west and north of England. Two yellow rain warnings are also in place covering areas of Scotland and the Met Office has said there could be up to 60mm of rain within the warning areas. Agnes will hit the UK and Ireland on Wednesday, with the most powerful winds expected on the Irish Sea coasts.
The forecaster says Storm Agnes will become a weather bomb - a deep low pressure system which makes the storm intensify quickly - as it makes its way across the Atlantic to Britain. In an update on social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, the Met Office warned that 'Storm Agnes will rapidly intensify during he next 18 hours as it moves towards the UK'.
