A rare red weather warning came into effect on Thursday as flooding caused by Storm Babet saw hundreds of homes evacuated, while thousands were hit by power cuts across Scotland.
Storm Babet has been wreaking havoc in Scotland with torrential rain, devastating floodwater and high-speed winds causing destruction in its wake.
When will Storm Babet end? Multiple weather warnings for rain and wind cover much of Scotland today. On Thursday evening, Deputy First Minister Shona Robison said "the worst is yet to come". The red warning for rain went into effect at on 6pm Thursday evening and ends midday on Friday. The rare warning - the Met Office's most severe alert - was expanded to include Dundee, Perth and Kinross, as well as Angus and Aberdeenshire.
A yellow weather warning for rain that kicked in at 6am on Thursday will end at 23:59pm on Saturday. This covers Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar and SW Scotland, Lothian Borders. “Protecting the public is our immediate priority and we are co-ordinating a national effort to ensure that people are safe.
