Flooding is possible in the north of England into Saturday, weather forecasters have warned
An amber weather alert for rain - which warns of a potential risk to life and property - has been issued for parts of the region from midday on Friday to 6am on Saturday. A yellow warning of rain is covering the whole of Greater Manchester from midnight on Thursday to 6am on Saturday.
In the north west, the weather will remain cloudy on Saturday with further outbreaks of rain, although this will be lighter and more patchy than of late, according to the Met Office. Winds will also be lighter than overnight, maximum temperature will be 12 °C. “Environment Agency teams are out on the ground and have operated flood barriers and storage areas. Temporary defences, including pumps and barriers, are lined up ready to minimise the impact of flooding where needed.
“People should check their flood risk, sign up for free flood warnings and keep up to date with the latest situation at https://www.gov.uk/check-if-youre-at-risk-of-flooding and follow @EnvAgency on X, formerly known as Twitter, for the latest flood updates.”
