Although the Met Office rain warning for Lancashire has been lifted, over a dozen flood warnings and alerts remain in place on Sunday as Storm Bert continues to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds. Saturday saw significant flooding, particularly in Rossendale, after the River Irwell burst its banks. Homes, businesses, and roads were inundated, leading to evacuations. While the River Irwell in some areas reached near-record levels, it ultimately fell short of the highest recorded level during the 2015 Boxing Day floods.

The Tesco store in Haslingden reportedly closed due to flooding while Rawtenstall's Christmas on the Square event featuring East 17 on Saturday afternoon had to be cancelled 'due to the adverse weather'. National Rail are warning of disruption on services across England, Wales and Scotland throughout Sunday as a result of Storm Bert while a number of Northern routes are affected today, including between Lancaster and Barrow-in-Furness.
The main band of rain should have passed on by 06:00 AM Sunday 24/11/2024 and only the occasional shower is forecast for Sunday. Flood warning area: Properties adjacent to the River Darwen, including Ewood Park, Stancliffe Street, Griffin Mill and River Mill.Areas most at risk include Fishwick Bottoms area on the north bank of the River Ribble upstream of Walton Bridge.
Flood alert area: River Ribble from Samlesbury and the River Darwen from Darwen including Blackburn, Preston, Walton-Le-Dale, Pleasington and Higher Walton.River levels have remained high today due to continuing rain. While the rain will cease for a time this evening, a further burst of heavy showers is forecast in the early hours of Sunday and this means that river levels will continue to remain high overnight.
