The Met Office has issued a rare amber weather warning for parts of the UK today and warned of danger to life, after snow, wind and rain hit the country over the last week
The UK is set to endure severe weather conditions as more than 100mm of rain is forecasted to accompany Storm Bert, potentially leading to major disruptions over the weekend. The Met Office warns that the combination of heavy rain and swift snowmelt poses risks for flooding and hazardous driving conditions, with a warning in place across Nottinghamshire .

The guidance from the Met Office warns: "Wintry showers and icy patches are expected, perhaps leading to some travel disruption."
The wind warning extends over a large area, from Humberside to the Scottish Highlands. The Met Office is advising drivers: "Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary. The Met Office website states: "Accumulations of 50-75 mm are expected to fall fairly widely during this time. There is a chance that some places over Dartmoor could see 100-150 mm. Strong southerly winds will accompany the heavy rain and may locally exacerbate impacts."
