The Met Office reports that Storm Ciaran will lead to an unsettled week of weather across the UK, with heavy showers and strong winds expected, especially in southern England and Wales. There are already yellow weather warnings for rain in place, and the risk of flooding is high in areas that are already saturated.
As the third named storm of the season hits the country this week, there is plenty of rain and strong winds on the forecast.
A number of yellow weather warnings for rain are already in place in the south, though the Met Office has said warnings will be updated over the next few days. Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Chris Almond, said: “Winds associated with Storm Ciarán are likely to gust to 80mph along the south coast of England, with a small risk of somewhere exposed seeing 90mph, and winds could even gust up to 50 or 60 mph further inland.
"Heavy and persistent rain will fall onto already saturated ground bringing a risk of further impacts such as flooding in areas that are already struggling to clean up from the heavy rainfall we have seen over the last week or so."
