Storm Eowyn has unleashed its fury on the UK and Ireland, bringing with it the strongest winds in living memory. The storm has caused widespread power outages, travel disruptions, and school closures across both countries.

Millions have been advised to remain indoors as Storm Eowyn continues to lash the UK and Ireland with winds of unprecedented intensity. Over 715,000 buildings in Ireland are currently without power as the country grapples with its most formidable storm on record, experiencing wind gusts of up to 114 mph in coastal areas. Three red weather warnings are in place across parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and the Isle of Man.

The Met Office has issued a stark warning, highlighting the significant risk to life posed by flying debris, potential damage to buildings and power lines, and urging extreme caution. Scotland's red weather warning has since been expanded to encompass even larger swathes of the country as the storm shows no signs of abating. Schools are closed, and over 1,000 flights scheduled for British and Irish airports have been cancelled, affecting an estimated 50,000 people. Sea, air, and road travel have been severely disrupted, with Network Rail suspending all services, including replacement buses, in Scotland for the day. Police have issued a clear directive, advising against all travel to and from the red warning areas. Motorists are urged to avoid roads unless absolutely essential. Around 4.5 million people in affected areas received an emergency alert on their phones on Thursday, marking the largest real-life deployment of this tool to date. Meanwhile, two intrepid swimmers defied the storm's fury, braving the freezing waters of a loch in Scotland to continue their daily cold water challenge. The pair, members of the Water Wavers group, embarked on their swim despite a Met Office red weather warning for 'dangerous winds' in the region. They are participating in a month-long challenge of daily cold water immersions, raising funds for Lanarkshire Counselling & CBT Centre CIC, a mental health service that provides free therapy to those who might otherwise not have access. The group's efforts aim to promote both physical and mental well-being through the invigorating experience of cold water immersion
