Vets Now urges dog owners to keep their pets indoors during Storm Eowyn due to dangerous wind gusts of over 100mph. The pet emergency service emphasizes the importance of prioritizing safety over routine walks, highlighting the potential risks of flying debris. They offer tips for keeping pets safe and calm during the storm, including creating a cozy corner, indoor playtime, soothing sounds, and knowing who to contact in case of emergency.

Further to red, yellow and amber weather warnings issued by the Met Office as Storm Eowyn threatens the UK, an emergency warning has been issued to people with dogs. Experts at Vets Now said they should not take their pets out for a walk on Friday, January 24.

Principal vet at Vets Now Liverpool, Sadie Spencer, said: “With Storm Eowyn on the way, it’s hugely important for pet owners to take extra care and caution. The Met Office advice for staying safe during a storm is to stay indoors as much as possible and we can’t emphasise enough that this is the safest option for your pets too.

Indoor playtime: Distract dogs or young puppies from the storm outside by engaging in indoor playtime with them. Play with their favourite toys, such as a tug toy, or practice training. Keeping their attention focused on you can help dogs to feel calmer. Your presence is often the best reassurance your pet can have.
