Storm Hannah has been named by Met Éireann and could cause infrastructure damage and power outages Met Éireann has named the weather system Storm Hannah, and it is set to batter western Ireland first, with gale force winds of up to 80mph.Meteorologist Matthew Martin said the first rain will arrive around mid-day before growing in severity by Friday evening.The rest of the UK will also be affected, with western and southern parts of Wales and the south west coast bearing the brunt.
Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said: ‘The strongest winds will be in the west coast of Wales, hitting around 70mph.supports HTML5 video‘For the rest of the UK, including parts of Scotland and the South West coast, expect something closer to 45-55mph.‘We’ve put out a yellow warning from 9pm on Friday to 3pm the following day.’
Mr Madge added the Met Office had decided not to name the storm in the UK as the impact is expected to be less serious than in Ireland. After the record-breaking Easter heatwave, expectations were raised, but Mr Madge said the Met Office wasn’t expecting anything peculiar in the forecast.‘It’s a fairly regular weather feature but it’s over for a while.’
