‘Black people have been playing on an uneven field for far too long and this pledge is a continuation in the fight to finally try and even it.’

is bringing back his #Merky Books prize for a second year and wants writers who ‘don’t have an outlet’ to publicise their work to take part.

The prize aims to discover unpublished and under-represented writers, who are aged 16-30 from the UK and Ireland, and this year, Stormzy wants to encourage new writers who do not have an ‘outlet or a means to get their work seen’ to consider signing themselves up. ‘I know too many talented writers that don’t always have an outlet or a means to get their work seen and hopefully #Merky Books can now be a reference point for them to say “I can be an author” and for that to be a realistic and achievable goal,’ Stormzy said while launching the prize for the second year running.‘Reading and writing as a kid was integral to where I am today and I from the bottom of my heart cannot wait to hear your stories and get them out into the big wide world.

Entries can be submitted from September 14 until October 30 for this year’s prize, with the winner eventually being unveiled in March 2021.Stormzy’s #Merky Foundation have pledged £10million to tackling racial inequality It came amid Black Lives Matter protests that took place across the US and the rest of the world, following the death of George Floyd, with #Merky pledging to financially back causes dedicated to improving and safeguarding the lives of those within the black community.
