The National Education Union said their members have taken action due to 'excessive working hours'

Teachers at a Merseyside secondary school have walked out on strike due to 'stress and burnout'. Members of the National Education Union have embarked on four days of strike action due to an ongoing dispute with Maricourt Cathoilc High School in Maghull . Jim Dye, NEU senior regional officer, said: 'Our members at Maricourt High School have been raising workload concerns with us for some time.

School policy should include at least 50 hours of unallocated 'directed time' in the budget for emergencies. Mrs Hatton said Maricourt has 'fully engaged' in discussions with the NEU to explore how 'directed time' is applied. She added: 'While we respect that it is their right to strike, we are disappointed that a small number of staff have balloted to continue with the industrial action.
