Layton Williams is set to do a first on the popular BBC dancing competition
Presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman will return to oversee a new batch of celebrities battling it out for the Glitterball. In usual fashion, the stars will have their performances judged by the panel - comprising of Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton DuBeke and Shirley Ballas.
Layton, who is from Bury, Greater Manchester, made history when he was 12-years-old by becoming the first black actor to play the lead role in Billy Elliot. Since then he has also gone on to star as the first black actor to play the lead in the London stage production of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
Since the announcement of the contestants’, Layton has confirmed his dance partner will be a male. When asked by a fan on Twitter: “Are you allowed to request a man/woman or is that totally random too?”, he responded with “I’m 100% gonna be paired up with a man.”Layton’s success hasn’t come without its challenges as he revealed to Attitude Magazine he got expelled from drama school for being “a bit of a clown”.
With a hectic schedule between shows, Layton’s education became less of a priority as he was only doing school “part-time” and was “causing too much havoc,” as reported by The Mirror. With Hindsight Layton admitted he understands why the decision was made to kick him out.
