Chris McCausland won Strictly Come Dancing, but like previous winners, he's only getting a small replica of the trophy. The BBC keeps the real Glitterball.
Strictly Come Dancing star Chris McCausland put so much effort into every dance that at times he seemed close to collapse - but if he thought his reward would be keeping the Glitterball trophy, he's going to be disappointed. The 47-year-old comedian won the BBC dance competition on Saturday night alongside Dianne Buswell and the pair were pictured holding the large trophy.
However, as many previous winners have pointed out, the BBC keep hold of the trophy and provide Strictly winners with a tiny version - 'the size of a grapefruit' as former winner Bill Bailey described it' - home with them instead. In fact, the only time he is likely to have touched the trophy, which he worked furiously hard for months to win, was on the TV show itself. Past winner Ore Oduba, 39, explained in 2016 that the length of time he got to spend with the trophy could have been measured with a stopwatch, as he paraded the mini version on This Morning. He said: 'I only got five seconds with it to lift it and then they just whisked it off! That was the only time we got to touch it.' McFly's Harry Judd, 38, agreed after his victory in 2011, telling the hosts of Sunday Brunch: 'They give you the big Glitterball and then they take it straight off you and give you this tiny little one.” The small replica, which lacks the grandeur of the full-size original, can often be seen perched on the trophy shelves of former winners. Bill Bailey, 59, even said a man from the production team even demanded he hand over the trophy before putting it in a bin bag and walking away. Speaking on Radio X in 2021 following his victory with Oti Mabuse, he said: 'A bloke came up to me from the production and asked for the trophy back. 'You don’t get to keep it, you just, you know, you can hold it, but you don’t keep it. They give you a little one, a little replica one about the size of a grapefruit. So he came over with a black bin bag. I’m not kiddin
